Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner in trouble over a potential criminal offence
Sussex’s Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne is in hot water as an independent watchdog has said she may have committed a criminal offence.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCCC) were looking into a comment Ms Bourne posted on Facebook during her campaign where she stated she had not claimed expenses during her term.
The investigation into the comment was launched after a member of the public complained, insisting Ms Bourne had, in fact, claimed £385.
A spokesperson for the office of the Sussex PCC said it had been co-operating fully with the investigation, also stating: “The office is aware that the IPCC has passed their report on the claim to the CPS. It would be inappropriate to comment any further.”
It’s important to note that the crown prosecution service are looking into a breach of the ‘Representation of the Peoples Act 1983’ rather than any wrongdoing regarding her expenses.
