1 Lewes Psychedelic Festival present a generous gig at the Prince Albert this Wednesday, with French act Aquaserge headlining. Formed from members of Stereolab and Tame Impala, their songs are packed with ideas (kinda like a more accessible Frank Zappa) and support comes from La Houle & M U M M Y.

2 If you’d like a more experimental kind of jazz than The Love Supreme, you could try Vels Trio’s frenetic compositions. The hip hop infused music could be a good gig for fans of Robert Glasper or BadBadNotGood.

3 Handel, Purcell and Bach are arguably the three biggest names in baroque music, and Shoreham’s Ropetackle Centre is hosting a special concert showcasing some of their best work. Ana Maria Rincon, soprano, Julia Bishop, violin, and Howard Beach, harpsichord will perform, including the vocal acrobatics of Handel’s Tornami a vagheggiar.

4 World famous tenor Jonas Kaufmann is making his role debut as Otello in the Royal Opera House’s production of the classic Verdi opera. Tickets have been hard to come by for the run, and his performance has been widely praised, but there are still tickets available for the live screening at the Odeon this Wednesday.

Comedy with Victoria Nangle
5 Kayo Opebiyi’s evening of raucous comic abandon, with just a hint of anarchy, makes a weekend highlight. Headliner Sean McLoughlin makes compulsive viewing, bringing honesty and skillful articulation together each time to prompt laughter on the verge of hysteria. Plus a fine line up of local emerging comic acts as support – including Tandy Houghton, Nathaniel Ben, Katherine Atkinson, Car Carzana and Ali Macfarlan.

6 An awesome double-header to kick your weekend of with, from Angela Barnes and Phil Jerrod with the bones and some of the flesh to their new shows ahead of completion. Jerrod’s show ‘Submerged’, tells tale of a man just about keeping his head above water in a world gone mad. Whereas Barnes’ current workings are entitled ‘Fortitude’, which may include topical musings from the Mock The Week and News Quiz comedian.
