Darkness descends on Southern Rail
The Darkness – best known for their song “I believe in a thing called love” have released a new song about the Southern Railway saga.
Southern Rail has received numerous complaints from passengers and been subjected to much criticism from both the local and national media. This is as a result of strikes, overcrowding, delays and cancellations.
The rockers definitely don’t believe in Southern Rail having trains that run on time. Southern Trains is one of their new songs to be featured on the band’s new album Pinewood Smile that is due to be released next month.
Lead singer Justin Hawkins said: “This song has genuine realness in it. My brother Dan and I had to endure the Southern Trains services during the making of this album. They are utterly incapable of running a reliable service.”
Whilst some of the language used is rather colourful, the lyrics clearly spell out the band’s frustration of their journeys into “pure despair.”
The band sings of “Heaving carriages of indignation/Grown men weeping in pure frustration.
“Major delays, cancellations, tedious conversations.”
The Darkness are not the first performers to target the company. Southern Fail the Musical – performed at this year’s Brighton Fringe – used satire to highlight the on-going rail problems faced by passengers.
The band are due to play at the Brighton Dome this December.
