Now & Then: Andy Garth feels Topical and Quizzical

As you may or may not be aware, I have to write these columns in advance, so when writing this one it was topical (Remembrance Day) as the first picture is a couple of pages from a book in our next Auction – at Aldrington Hall Glebe Villas Hove on Tuesday 28th November, viewing from 6.30, Auction at 8pm (and breathe).

The book in question is called ‘Brighton in Battledress’ and was published in 1946/7 and showed, for the first time in print, all the bomb-damaged property and locations in Brighton and Hove during WWII. It just shows the resilience and grit that existed in those days.

The estimate is £10 which is a small price to pay for such a huge piece of social history.

The second photo is a postcard that was sent from a Hove postbox with a Hove postmark (if you are not sure what I am referring too, ask your Dad) which has written on the back: “Dear Auntie, this is where I now live”, but with no address quoted, so… where is it?
