Brighton Lights: What to do in the city – w/c 27th February
Music, Entertainment & Comedy With Victoria Nangle
1 The daffodil-loving The Smiths frontman Morrissey showcases his most recent album Low In High School, along with hopefully a smattering of old favourites too.
Brighton Centre, Saturday 3 March, 6.30pm, from £39.05
2 They’ve become something of a YouTube phenomenon, Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox brings together a band of vocalists and musicians for vintage-pop sounds and covers of 21st century party songs with a 1920s arrangement. Heaps of fun.
Brighton Dome, Monday 5 March, 7pm, £37/27
3 In anticipation of International Women’s Day ACCA’s Creative Director Laura McDermott invites Dr Maria Balshaw (the first female director in Tate’s 120-year history), Catherine Mayer (author and co-founder of The Women’s Equality Party), Philippa Gregory (novelist, broadcaster and philanthropist) and Helen Pankhurst (author, activist, great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst & granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst, and ambassador for CARE International) for the panel discussion Representing the People?
Latest Music Bar, Wednesday 28 February, 7.15pm, £15
4 Lisa Holloway hosts The Space, with probing questions prompting interesting anecdotes from singer-songwriter and former Squeeze member Chris Difford, film producer, production manager and assistant director Anthony Waye. Plus an excellent raffle.
Latest Music Bar, Wednesday 28 February, 7.15pm, £15
5 BBC Radio 4 favourite (think Newsjack, The New Quiz and more) and regular of Mock The Week, Angela Barnes brings her show Fortitude to Shoreham. On 9 November last year two things happened that affected Barnes – she turned 40 and Donald Trump was elected president of the United States. Examining her reluctance to accept either of these two events, and being a self-admitted fully paid up member of the Peter Pan generation, this is a personal and political show from one of our favourite comics out there.
Ropetackle, Thursday 1 March, 8pm, £12/10
6 Britain’s Got Talent and Amanda Holden’s golden buzzer act comedian Daliso Chaponda brings his debut show What The African Said… Daliso Chaponda has lived in countries where the press are not allowed to criticize the government, and in others with no libel laws where they can say anything, and has worked as both a journalist and a newsreader – allowing him the perfect perspective to comment on all that is real news, fake news, gossip, tall stories and more.
Komedia, Thursday 1 March, 8pm, £15
