Stage: Brighton Open Air Theatre presents Shakespeare’s The Comedy Of Errors

Few things say summer as much as open air theatre and here in Brighton and Hove we are so lucky to have BOAT, the fine legacy of Brighton theatre-maker Adrian Bunting. Despite the vagaries of British weather we all set out, rain or shine, to enjoy thespians cavorting in the open air so why not book in to catch a spot of Shakespeare?

Following their smash hit A Midsummer Night’s Dream last year and Much Ado About Nothing the year before, the reputation of the Brighton Shakespeare Company for funny and accessible productions of the bard’s great works is growing – and this production promises to charm and delight in equal measure.

Directed by The Treason Show’s creator, Mark Brailsford and starring Paul Moriarty (EastEnders, The Gentle Touch) The Comedy of Errors sees the company back at Brighton Open Air Theatre with a madcap and bonkers (their words) production of this classic farce. Shakespeare meets A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum (again their words).

A pair of shipwrecked twins (both called Antipholus) and their servants (both named Dromio) are separated by a storm at sea. Both sets of twins wash up on the shores of rival cities where they live settled and contented lives. That is until one set of twins lands in the other’s hostile territory. Chaos ensues as unwitting friends, family and acquaintances confuse one set of twins with the other in a farce full of slapstick and silliness set in a city of sorcery.
