Film: Cabin in the Woods (15)
Director: Drew Goddard
He’s the wunderkind of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel fans, as a writer on both TV series, and for the motion comic. You can also add to Drew Goddard’s credits a stint on Alias, Lost and as the writer of clever horror film Cloverfield. Cabin In The Woods marks his directorial debut, and with a script written by him and the glorious Joss Whedon, it has been greatly anticipated and has created a buzz worthy of any honey farm in the district.
As Goddard’s and Whedon’s track records would suggest, this takes a well trodden path in scares and then adds a new dimension to the idea. Five teenagers head off to a cabin in the woods for a summer break with a series of instructions they’ve been told to follow and joyful youth in their hearts. It’s when the rules start to be broken that the bright young things discover that this retreat was designed and built more for punishment than any fun endeavours they may have had in mind.
Starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Fran Kanz (Dollhouse), Anna Hutchison, Kristen Connolly and Jesse Williams, as well as Amy Acker (a Whedon favourite cast member from Angel and Dollhouse), this looks all set to be a fine addition to any Whedon fan’s collection.
