Ed Eales-White – Champions

Ed Eales-White’s show as a fully formed sketch show was good fun. As a work in progress it was remarkable. A fast-moving sketch show, as opposed to character comedy from a conventional stand-up performer, Ed’s experience as both a writer and performer in the award-winning sketch group Clever Peter served him well. A variety of characters that were sad, warm, hope-filled, angry, funny and filled with pathos were delivered on a platter with the energy never dipping once. An impressive feat for such a rapid show resting on the shoulders of one man. With some lovely audience participation – not least the story of a vulture and his dedication to small business – Eales-White’s sparkling eyes softened the harsher punchlines and endeared every one of his ‘champions’ to us. Yes, there were weaker moments, but charm and the quality of the rest of the work showed them as simply blips on the landscape. I can’t wait to see the final show.
