Man stabbed to death in his Brighton flat

A 40-year-old man was stabbed to death in his Brighton flat last night (Sunday 29 April).

Paramedics worked to save his life after a 999 call was made at 7.40pm but he was pronounced dead at the Norfolk Square flat shortly after 9pm.

Sussex Police said that a 21-year-old local man was arrested at a Brighton address at 9am today (Monday 30 April) on suspicion of murder.

He is being held in custody while detectives make further inquiries and prepare to interview him.

Post-mortem tests are due to take place this afternoon and Sussex Police said that officers were trying to trace the victim’s next of kin who do not live locally.

The force said that a knife was recovered in the flat and was being examined to see whether it was connected with the death.

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Sloan, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “We do not believe that this was a random attack.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the Norfolk Square area early yesterday evening and who saw any suspicious activity.”

Witnesses or anyone with information can call Sussex Police by dialling 101 or can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
