Popular Netflix series ‘Bridgerton’ breaking stereotypes and setting new trends
The highly anticipated Netflix series Bridgerton, has returned for its second season, with new characters and fascinating story lines.
The second season follows the Sharma sisters as they navigate their way to finding love and securing a respectable status in high society. The show has been positively praised for their minority casting, breaking social norms, and setting new examples. This has also been reflected in the actors themselves as Charithra Chandran, who plays Edwina Sharma in the series, said passionately in a tweet: ‘’we have gotten used to aliens and superheroes, but, you know, it’s a struggle to accept a brown or Black princess?’’
The two actresses were welcomed with open arms on the Bridgerton set, with Guyanese-British actress and singer Golda Rosheuvel playing Queen Charlotte in the hit show, said she was delighted to see ‘two brown faces’ in a place where they would not be considered in.
Along with the series showcasing the Sharma sisters, the show also follows Jonathan Bailey who plays the viscount Anthony Bridgerton, as he searches for his wife in the newest series. The premiere for the highly anticipated season was on Friday 25 March, which featured most of the cast including Bailey’s partner. It was refreshing to see all kinds of representation on the carpet, showing that the film industry is moving to a more progressive and inclusive society.
