The Great Escape – Friends

The long lines outside meant that the word was definitely out about this hot new Brooklyn five-piece. They more than lived up to the hype with a blissfully catchy slice of electro-pop that could have been 80’s Madonna fronting the Tom Tom Club. Singer Samantha Urbani, sporting rabbit ears, was flirtatious throughout: from sitting on the crash bar distributing hugs to jumping in to join the dancers. Their too-short set was heavy on percussion and each song was a peach that could fill any dancefloor. Their enthusiasm was as infectious as their music and I loved every second.
