The Great Escape – Niki & The Dove

The opening bars of their first song were a synthesised call to prayer that segued into layered keyboard loops for singer Malin to perform over. And perform she did, for as well as sounding like Kate Bush and Lene Lovich, she also brought their theatrics to the stage. Keyboard player Gustaf worked really hard throughout, building each song and soloing over himself, as well as providing backing vocals and percussion. Their entire set sounded very 80’s, from the pounding bass and stadium power chords through to the hands-in-the-air final song that would have fitted perfectly at the end of a John Hughes film.
