The Alternative Escape – Martin Rossiter

The perfect choice to close an afternoon in the Marwood garden, Rossiter proved he owns any stage he walks onto when midway through the opener, he dealt coquettishly with a disruptive latecomer. Every one of the new songs sounded like a standard, enhanced by Robin Coward’s graceful and elegant piano accompaniment. ‘Drop Anchor’ made effective use of his falsetto and the obligatory Gene song sounded fresh and classy.

Closing with the vitriolic ‘Three Points On A Compass’, that featured a tumultuous final chorus, he was absolutely spot on with his opening comment that it was our pleasure not his.
