Headcase
Touched Theatre’s show Headcase spun a fascinating tale with puppetry and dance, unfolding over the course of a long night alone in a troubled teenager’s room. A sweltering evening in the Nightingale added to the feverish, claustrophobic atmosphere of the story, as it addressed such widespread adolescent problems as body image, mental health, even monsters under the bed. As mute central figure Cassie, Yael Karavan ping-ponged through a convincing range of heightened emotions, while puppeteer Annie Brooks’ interactions with events were surprising and delightful. Inventive, thought-provoking and really quite heart-warming, Headcase would keep any intelligent teen spellbound.
