Mayor to open Brighton skate park tomorrow morning

The mayor of Brighton and Hove is to open the new Hollingdean skate park tomorrow morning (Sunday 1 July) at the T in the Park Festival.

Councillor Bill Randall will open the skate park at 11.30am – earlier than previously advertised – during the festival which runs from 11am to 4pm.

Youngsters have been asking for the old skate park to be replaced for about four years – and in May work on the £75,000 project began in Hollingdean Park.

The contractor Bendcrete has worked with youngsters who contributed ideas for the design.

Teenagers in the area raised £14,800 towards the new skate park off Brentwood Road and Lynchet Close, having put their case to other young people from the Youth Capital Fund.

They have had support from community development worker Liz Lee who has kept a record of their progress on the Hollingdean News Online website.

Hollingdean Development Trust, the Big Lottery Community Spaces Programme and Brighton and Hove City Council funded the project
