State Of Mind: A Consciousness Expo

The Sackler Centre For Consciousness Science at the University of Sussex put together an impressive array of experiments, interactive displays and talks that brought cutting edge ideas to hordes of very curious Brightonians – there were queues out the door. This expo kicked off a week of lectures and multidisciplinary collaborative endeavours in an effort to bring this exciting work out of the lab, off the campus and into the public’s consciousness. Exploring virtual and augmented reality, synaesthesia and body-mind connectedness, it was refreshing to see that consciousness is starting to be let loose from its exclusive home in the brain, and that the body is beginning to be seen as actively involved in how we construct and experience our realities.
