Tom Spicer has Fragile X Syndrome. His ultimate dream is to meet Metallica drummer, legend Lars Ulrich. His sister and brother plan to make that dream reality. Cue enduring road trip to three of Metallica’s American tour destinations.
Incredibly touching, this labour of love documentary was more evocative than any feel-good, big budget Hollywood story. I was with them emotionally, every step of the journey, whether it was the initial anxiety of taking Tom from his set routine, the genuine moments of reconnection or the very happy ending. I laughed, I sobbed and as a hardcore Metallica fan myself, I left very jealous and with an overwhelming need to go home and listen to ‘Enter Sandman’.
