FilmPride Comes to Brighton Fringe with a Powerful Curated Retrospective!

FilmPride is back this May with 7 screenings of independent queer cinema at The Actors, featuring a hand-picked selection of short film strands alongside a powerful feature documentary from our archives.

On 17th, 22nd, 23rd and 24th May, we are bringing the best of LGBTQIA+ cinema to the heart of Kemptown. This Brighton Fringe programme is a thoughtfully curated retrospective, offering audiences a chance to revisit some of the most impactful stories we’ve screened over the last few years.

The May festival offers a dynamic mix of storytelling formats. Alongside our signature thematic strands – which explore everything from the friction of public perception to the surreal joy of queer life – we are proud to highlight a feature documentary that provides an in-depth look at the collective histories and personal triumphs of our lesbian community. This programme navigates high-stakes stories of resistance and the beautiful, complex reality of living out loud.

Founded by filmmaker Deborah Espect and Latest TV, FilmPride remains a volunteer-run mission to champion voices that mainstream cinema often overlooks. A core part of this mission is our commitment to intersectional representation; we ensure that disabled and neurodivergent voices are always included in our programmes, reflecting the diverse ways our community navigates the world.

From international award-winners to experimental works, our May screenings are a celebration of queer creativity that refuses to be quiet!
