Celebrating Strength and Belonging: Refugee Week at Brighton’s Jubilee Library
To mark Refugee Week, Brighton’s Jubilee Library hosted a community gathering and awards ceremony celebrating the vital contributions of refugees, featuring moving personal stories from Asma, a Ugandan refugee and longtime science teacher who arrived in 1972; Ashraf, a Sudanese refugee who has successfully launched multiple local businesses including a new restaurant; and Sucha Chhataji from the Racial Harassment Forum, who emphasized the event’s powerful message of peace, safety, and unity.
