Le Nozze di Figaro (on demand) – Glyndebourne Opera

I loved this ‘Figaro’ in the opera house and now the same superlative music and production is expertly captured live on film in fascinating detail. All the characters had even more to give (we couldn’t see the Count’s spliff in the opera house!). The sound was excellent and the atmosphere informal. The friendly cinema audience sat as silent as possible to catch every nuance. There was hardly a cough, just the quiet, welcome rumble of the air-conditioning. This is a ‘Figaro’ to cherish, on-line from the Guardian web site until Sunday 26 August and I hope soon afterwards on DVD.
