Film: The Campaign (15)

Director: Jay Roach

We haven’t had homegrown satire from the States for a bit, but with a rather big election coming up and real life gaffs from politicians hitting the news with such frequency you’re looking for a re-bound, this seems the perfect time for satire to return.

Will Ferrell stars as the incumbent and charismatic congressman, used to politicking with the best of them and usually unopposed. Some bigwigs take exception to this and push the mild-mannered head of the local tourist board Zach Galifianakis into considering running against him, with their financial and political backing.

What results is a plunge into the depths of mudslinging, backbiting and general political depravity, exposing the dirt on everyone in the slapstick style both stars have become known for. Plus with added bite writer Chris Henchy famous for 2010’s The Other Guys, Spin City, Entourage and the Funny Or Die… series. Also starring Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd and Brian Cox.

Released Friday 28 September
Showing at Odeon and Cineworld
