Celeb City: Danish classical trio in town, Dermot O’Leary’s restaurant gets robbed & Azealia Banks lets rip
Great Danes
The amazing Efterklang – from Denmark and based in Berlin – are set to play the Brighton Dome on 28 October and we’re counting down the days. Now on the fourth album, the band, made up of three childhood friends; Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg, are touring America and Europe, playing with various classical orchestras across the world. Being big fans we managed to catch up with the lovely Casper to chin wag about their latest album – Piramida – and their up-coming visit to our seaside city.
Piramida was a labour of love which saw the boys collect ‘thousands’ of sounds from an abandoned Russian mining town which they then used to make their beautiful and eerie album – think Brighton’s STOMP meets Radiohead. Casper reckons his favourite sound of the trip came from ‘incredible’ oil tankers, which you can watch them climb into on their album preview on YouTube (bonkers yet brilliant!) The end product of the trip has resulted in a beautiful album which we’ve been playing during those hectic times in the office.
The boys are looking forward on descending on Brighton at the end of the month, hoping that this time they’ll get a chance to enjoy the city a bit more than usual. Casper described Brighton as, “one of my favourite cities in England”. Which is exactly what we wanted to hear, explaining he certainly wanted to fit in a trip to Brighton Pier over the weekend. So make sure you keep an eye open for three rather cute Danes next week. Tickets for Efterklang’s upcoming show are available on the Dome’s website. Fishy Fishy
It was a bad week for Dermot O’Leary, after his Fishy Fishy restaurant hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons. A safe containing £1,500 of cash was raided at 1am from the Sussex Square eatery. What with that and the Carolynne Poole situation, it’s been a difficult time for old Derm.
regulation of the banks
Emma in the office was lucky enough to have got her hands on Azealia Banks tickets way back in Feb so popped along to her show at the Concorde 2 last week. Miss Banks was looking like her usual fierce self with long green locks and a crop top with flashing lights. The rapper played to a packed out crowd, despite the fact she’s still yet to drop an album. Her debut release keeps being delayed for a mixture of reasons and her last single was held back due to a sampling argument with a collaborator. If you get the chance to catch her live do it, the girl certainly knows how to rock a room. Keep an eye out for her elusive album as well – it’s set to be a scorcher.
office art
All eyes have been on our office recently as the up and coming graphic designer Tom Scotcher gave us a bit of a face lift. Armed with pastel coloured spray cans and a brief for ‘a bit of pink but not too girly’ Scotcher successfully converted Maison JBPR into a work of art. Set to graduate from St Martin’s College of Art we predict big things from Tom.
