Dozens of jobs to go at Shoreham Harbour

A building materials group based at Shoreham Harbour is to shed dozens of jobs.

The Dudman Group, which is based at Albion Wharf in Albion Street, Southwick, went into administration last Friday (11 January).

And on Wednesday (16 January) one of the joint administrators, James Stares, from the accountants Grant Thornton, said that the business would be closed.

Dudman, the aggregates, concrete and cement supplier, employs about 140 people, with about 80 jobs based at the harbour.

Mr Stares said: “Following a thorough review of the business, the joint administrators have concluded that it is not possible to continue normal operations of the business in administration.

“Therefore, the decision has been made to commence a wind down process and asset realisation strategy.

“Sadly, a number of redundancies have had to be made in operations and head office support functions.”

Construction News reported that Dudman made £500,000 pre-tax profit on sales of £30 million in 2011 and that it had tangible fixed assets worth £35 million. These included property, plant and machinery and vehicles.
