JD McPherson

Many bad moons have gone by since I last saw me a rock n roll gig. Rock n roll somehow had become demoted to the social club style era… Until now. JD McPherson embodies the soul of rock n roll, the likes of Fats Domino, Jerry lee Lewis, Gene Vincent, Ray Charles and Little Richard spring to mind. Quiff a-go-go. The Haunt was involved in a new breed of sub-culture, old and new entwined in a piano-swerling foot-stomping swing. The place was rammed. ‘Northside Girl’ was the only tune I had heard of JD’s but every tune they played seemed to touch a long lost spot in my musical chakra. I would advise all lovers of music to catch this guy and his band of hipcats. The words ‘raucous’ and ‘frenzy’ strike a chord. ‘Signs And Signifiers’ is the new album by JDs McPherson, and would definitely would not go a miss in your collection….on vinyl.

Great review Andy. I love this band. I bought my ticket for the Electric Ballroom gig months ago, but sadly I couldn’t make it on the night. I caught them live last year and they were amazing.
