Safari sights
South Africa is a varied and exciting holiday destination, with something for everyone. Here’s the lowdown:
Safari: South Africa is home to the world-renowned Kruger National Park which is home to approximately 145 mammal species including the famous collection of animals known as the Big Five: Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo. You can experience Kruger in many ways, from five-star luxury lodges to camping under the stars. There is also the option of an open vehicle night drive – an experience not to be missed.
Cities: South Africa is home to some fantastic cities including Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. Cape Town has lots to offer including a hike/cable car to the top of Table Mountain for fabulous views across the city, amazing beaches with trendy pavement cafés and great shopping. You can also visit the famous Robben Island.
Johannesburg is home to the Apartheid Museum. You can visit the famous township of Soweto where one of the locals has set up a cycling tour company.
Durban is popular for its warm weather all year round, spending time outdoors, whether strolling or cycling along the beach, picnicking next to the botanic gardens, diving with the sharks or catching the surf.
Beaches: The country enjoys some 2,798km of striking coastline which is dotted with warm sandy beaches and interesting rocky shorelines. Whether you are looking for a beach to relax on, catch some waves on the surf or dramatic coastline walks, South Africa has it all.
Wine tasting: South Africa is one of the best places in the world to sample wine tasting surrounded by spectacular scenery. The town of Stellenbosch in the Western Cape is said to be the capital of the winelands. This is one of the prettiest towns in the whole of South Africa where you can spend sunshine filled days tasting wine with views to die for.
Whale watching: Hermanus is the famous town for whale watching from land. It is also the only town in the world to employ a whale crier. Many hours can be spent here watching the whales in the ocean whilst also enjoying the many shops and cafés of the town.
