Man jailed for Hove wine bar attack
A 21-year-old man has been jailed for six years for smashing a pint glass into another man’s face in a wine bar in Hove.
Daniel Boyle caused his 30-year-old victim a serious eye injury in the attack at Misty’s wine bar in Church Road, Hove.
Boyle, of Hudson Close, Worthing, pleaded guilty at Hove Crown Court to assault causing grievous bodily harm.
The attack happened on Saturday 7 April last year.
Boyle also admitted a charge of having cocaine.
The court was told that Boyle approached his victim who was in the bar with friends.
When the man made a comment to his friends, Boyle smashed a pint glass in his face.
He suffered a serious injury to his left eye and other wounds to his face and needed surgery.
Boyle was arrested by officers from Sussex Police who found a bag of cocaine on him.
After the case Detective Constable Scott Moore said: “This was an unprovoked attack with a glass.
“Luckily the victim has not lost his sight but has had his vision affected and is still undergoing checks at the Eye Hospital.”
