East India Youth

Not often do I walk into the Green Door to find a man on stage with tumble dryer extractor on his head singing about lotuses. But then again, he pulled it off, so fair play to support act The European.

East India Youth aka William Doyle was more conventional with a floral shirt and mopish hair. However his music was a revelation. Performing alone, he tore into his set which had more references than I could count; techno drillings of early Moby, ‘Low’ period Bowie, joyous New Order electronica etc. but it felt far from being derivative. It was in fact a rare treat to have something so fully formed and powerful in an otherwise lacklustre world of electronica crossover artists.
