Shazia Mirza: Cuckooland!

Shazia Mirza has all the qualities that a good comedian needs to have: the ability to be sarcastic, to be daring and obviously, to be witty. It’s a shame however none of this was particularly evident in her new show, ‘Cuckooland!’

It was inconsistent, slow and some of it just wasn’t funny. That’s not to say that some of it wasn’t hilariously witty, but there were all the generic jokes on Jews and tales of anal sex (which even Shazia herself admitted was scraping the barrel), and for an award-winning comedian it seemed wrong not to expect more. The whole set was also two hours, which really was one hour too long. A good night, but we left feeling a little disappointed as I’m sure this wonderful lady has a lot more to offer.
