Melody’s Echo Chamber
For her first Brighton show, Ms Prochet, singing in English and French, played a mostly melt-in-the-mouth set to a packed, mixed crowd of ex-pats and local Francophiles. Melody’s breathy petite fille voice floated softly over the dreamy 60s Gallic pop backing, with keys and guitars channelled through a mix of effects pedals. A plodding, proggy instrumental temporarily broke the spell but was followed by, what could have been the soundtrack to a night out in Paris that culminated in a psychedelic finale. The band’s jazz sensibilities added weight to a fine show from the deservedly hotly-tipped newcomers.
