Comedian Jo Brand visits Cityclean, HOUSE 2013, & fundraisers for Carousel & Rockinghorse
Jo Brand visits Cityclean depot
BAFTA winning comedian, writer and actress Jo Brand visited Hollingdean Depot Learning Resource Centre on Wednesday 6 March.
Jo was invited to visit the centre by refuse and recycling operative and GMB union learning rep Wes Lee Emond, himself a former winner of a Learner Award.
The council’s City Services thriving Learning Centre offers staff the chance to develop their learning and acquire new skills which will benefit them both in and outside work.
City Services Learning works in Partnership the GMB union and with a variety of education providers including Sussex Downs College, Central Sussex College and Learn Direct.
HOUSE 2013
On Tuesday 5 March, HOUSE 2013 held a partners and sponsors evening to announce a new visual arts commission from Lead Artist, Mariele Neudecker. The event took place at the Mercury Room in Myhotel. HOUSE was created by directors Judy Stevens and Chris Lord, originating as a partner event to the Artists Open Houses, HOUSE is part of the Brighton festival season, and takes place this May. www.housefestival.org

Chichester students raise five-figure sum for brighton arts charity carousel
On Monday 4 March students from the University of Chichester Rag Committee handed a cheque for £11,800 to learning disability arts charity Carousel.
Carousel, which is celebrating its 30th year, enables people with learning disabilities to fulfil their creative ambitions. All its activities are run by people with learning disabilities from committee members right up to Board level. The cheque was received by Carousel rock band Beat Express. www.carousel.org.uk

£2,000 raised for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit
On Wednesday 27 February James Epps, the Director and President of the Brighton & Hove Estate Agents Association presented a cheque to Dr Ryan Watkins of the Trevor Mann Baby Unit at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The £2,000 cheque for the Rockinghorse charity, was raised from the BHEAA annual dinner held at The Grand Hotel in January.
James is pictured with his sister Heidi, her partner Lee and their son, Alfie, who received great support from the Trevor Mann Baby Unit.
