London Philharmonic Orchestra

This evening, the London Philharmonic fulfil their reputation as both accomplished and adventurous. After a process of awkward accommodation, the well established orchestra found a better fit with guest conductor David Parry, but only after a strained start. A little-performed cello concerto (Schumann’s in A Minor) sat comfortably between two epic and familiar friends (Beethoven’s 5th and Elgar’s Enigma variations). The startling peak of the evening came with a cello, but not as we know it. A young magician (Narek Hakhnazaryan) cast a piece of original composition with his voice and the beautiful cello, brimming with exciting rhythmic impulses and seductive intensity. Incredible!
