Brighton Heroes Run: Calling all the heros!
Be a hero this May & take part in the Brighton Heroes Run in aid of Pass It On Africa
The term ‘hero’ means something different to each of us, but we all have at least one in our lives, whether it’s a cartoon character from our childhood, or an ordinary person who has inspired us.
On Sunday 19 May, you will once again have the opportunity to celebrate your favourite superhero by taking part in Brighton & Hove’s iconic Heroes Run on Hove seafront. You don’t have to be an athlete to take part, so the event is a fantastic opportunity for all the family to get involved and to hide behind your crusader mask if you don’t want to be recognised doing your first fun run. As well as the Super 5k distance and Heroic 10k for the grown up Wonder Women and Supermen amongst you, there is also the ever-popular Mini-Heroes 500m Dash which allows your little Jedi Knights and fairies to don their favourite outfits and demonstrate their fledgling superpowers.
The events take place next to Hove Lawns with the Mini-Heroes Dash starting at 11am and prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Outfits can be shop-bought or homemade, but best to think of the practicalities of running in it before getting too carried away with the design! If you work in an office and are looking for an idea for a team awayday, why not get your creative juices flowing and enter as a group? It’s a fantastic excuse for team bonding in underpants and a little good humoured rivalry, whilst raising money for a good cause.
Now in its ninth year, the Heroes Run raises money for locally-based charity Pass It On Africa, and is aiming to raise £20,000 to support school build projects and education for some of the poorest communities in Kenya and Ghana. Participants are being challenged to help meet this target by raising just £20 each in sponsorship. The entrance fee covers all event and set up costs, so 100 per cent of sponsorship money raised will go to support the charity’s projects.
Entries are open online at www.heroesrun.org.uk and you can also find out more on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/HEROE5RUN. The Super 5k distance is open to anyone 13 years or older, and the Heroic 10k for 16 years and over. The Mini-Heroes Dash is for 8-15 year olds, although under 8’s may take part if accompanied by an adult.
It was once said that one man can’t change the world, but all have the power to make a difference, so dig out your trainers, get creative with your heroic costumes and sign up for a fun day out, and at the same time help put a smile on the face of a child in Africa.
