Cruising
A musical about a washed-up soap star stranded at sea on a cruise ship with 200 fans and her ex-girlfriend was perhaps not going to be the most thought-provoking production at the Fringe, but you could be forgiven for hoping for something more substantial than what was on offer at Cruising.
A low production value and a rather comical lighting failure resulting in two songs to be sung almost entirely in darkness could be excused, mainly thanks to the strong vocal performances from the cast. Unfortunately the clumsy, dull manner in which storyline developed left little to the imagination and the light smattering of jokes couldn’t save the ship from sinking.
