Under Review: Life remembered
Lola Arias: My Life After, Corn Exchange, Brighton Dome, 25 May 2013
This is the stuff festivals should be made of, fascinating work from around the world that exposes us to arts and art forms that we do not see in our normal lives. Lola Arias and her actors have created a fascinating work that was both informative and entertaining. The structure of the piece, almost a lecture, using projections that actually added to the intellectual content of the work rather than being merely decorative, lifted this above the ordinary. It had wit and charm, it had passion, humour and tragedy and it had the audience, for the most part, on the edges of their seats. The stories, so personal, were moving real experiences told by real people in a way that brought the whole to life and made real sense. More of this please.
