John Foxx & The Maths

The ever-forward-looking electronic music pioneer returned with his ongoing project alongside collaborators Benge Edwards and Hannah Peel. Continuing the futurism themes of his earlier work, much of the set, mainly pulled from 2011’s ‘Interplay’ and 1980’s ‘Metamatic’, could have been the soundtrack to a post-apocalypse Cronenberg film. ‘The Running Man’ saw Foxx roaring over Benge’s pounding synth drums and the floor-shakingly deep bass, while Peel’s violin harked back to Ultravox!’s haunting bleakness: the throbbing ‘Catwalk’ even giving a nod to their classic ‘Rockwrok’. With minimal chat, Foxx remains the quiet man but continues to experiment while his peers rest on their laurels.
