Diabolical! @ Upstairs at Three and Ten

A late start, being forced to stare at the stage occupied by a man wearing a mutant rabbit suit reading a porn mag was hardly the most magical of beginnings. First up was Vishente Baraja (Mr Shuffle) who did remarkable things with a deck of cards. Appearing to remove a female audience member’s bra was both funny and extremely clever. The ‘star’ of the show, Alex Ward, a young, ragged, cut-price, profanity spouting Derren Brown was extremely impressive if not tremendously likable. The compere, Rooster’s snow trick at the finale was lovely. Although there was close-up magic in the bar afterwards, the show itself, though highly enjoyable, did feel truncated.
