Celebcity: Trevor Sorbie’s Anna Chapman makes the IT List
Burgerman, Trevor Sorbie’s Anna Chapman makes the IT List, & Dave Anderson’s creation returns
Our new super hero
From making a special limited edition sick bag for Virgin Airways to creating New Era snap backs and Nike trainers, US based Jon Burgerman has been one of the most prolific and recognisable artists of popular culture, his unique pieces being collected worldwide. The Birmingham born urban artist, designer, illustrator and entrepreneur has exhibited alongside the likes of Damien Hirst and Vivienne Westwood and has works included within the permanent collection of the V&A; he now brings his trademark cartoonish, angst-ridden creations to Ink_d Gallery, Brighton.
In A Failure Of Judgement the artist explores his relocation to a disturbingly consumerist New York, as well as his critical reaction to modern life as a whole. The works are at once deliciously exciting and yet almost overwhelmingly stimulating, characters which imbue the artist’s concerns with a lifestyle of abundance.
The show is a total must see, not only for the unique and very funny work of Burgerman but also his use of his unique name and the location of the gallery for this particular show. Ink_d’s next door neighbours just happen to be The Burger Brothers and so they thought it would be rude not to invite Jon to create a unique burger for them to serve throughout the duration of the show.
I was given the secret recipe which I can now divulge – but don’t tell anyone!
Veggie patty:
Chilli cheddar portabello mushroom with Fiery Marrakesh sauce
Beetroot salad
Garlic mayo
Caramelised onion
Roasted pepper
Feta stuffed olive ‘eyes’
Jon Burgerman at Ink_d runs until Monday 7 October.
Anna makes the It list!
Huge congratulations to the fabulous Anna Chapman, art director at Trevor Sorbie Brighton, who was honoured with The Fashionista award at the 2013 Creative HEAD It List awards at a
glittering ceremony at London’s Natural History Museum last week. Judged by a panel of industry experts including acclaimed session stylists Sam McKnight and Johnnie Sapong, The Fashionista received one of six It List awards announced on the night for up-and-coming hairdressers aged 30 and under. Truly deserving of this award, Anna’s passion for fashion has seen her working on multiple runway shows including Preen, Rag and Bone, and Topshop Unique at London Fashion Week and for Chloe, Kenzo, Dior, Damir Doma and Hussein Chalayan at Paris Fashion Week.
Anna says: “Winning Fashionista is such a huge honour, It List has such an amazing profile and to be a winner is amazing! I have been working really hard to build my fashion portfolio, so for my work to be judged and then recognised by some of the biggest session stylists in the industry is just incredible, it’s an award that truly means so much to me.”
Anna also thanked the team at Trevor Sorbie, including Kate Wilson, the salon director of the Nile Street salon. We’d suggest booking your appointment at Trevor Sorbie Brighton with Anna before the waiting list gets too long!
Dave Anderson’s Bunny grows up
We are really excited that Dave Anderson – our friend and Brighton based-cartoon writer has just published the long awaited Bastard Bunny comic book. Bastard Bunny was an icon in the ’90s, even having his own comic strip in the famous music weekly NME.
The book, out this month, is all about Bastard Bunny as he is now: fat, 40 and a little bit furious. We’ve had a sneak peek at the book and we are addicted already.
