Guards! Guards! Live

City Reads’ Terry Pratchett celebration this month opened with a quintessentially English shindig. An ‘Ankh-Morpork Knuckle Sandwich’ was actually a fine hog roast in a bun, with delicious apple sauce and a perfect ratio of crunchiness to meatiness. A wide variety of pale ales, cider, stouts and so on were on offer at the ale festival next door to complement the hugely entertaining live reading. The confident and professional actors commanded attention with authoritative voices, funny accents and good comic timing, while maintaining a raucous atmosphere including audience participation. Eloquent, engaging, merry fun, and a fitting tribute to Pratchett’s work.
