Richard Herring – We’re All Going To Die

The stalwart of the Brighton Comedy Festival, Richard Herring’s latest show ambitiously tackled our own mortality. The set-up was familiar territory. Blending philosophical insight with opinionated stabs at religion and, of course, the par-for-the-course nob jokes, We’re All Going To Die prompted many a belly laugh. As always, Herring was at his best when taking familiar cultural reference points (this time, Shakespeare fell victim) and deconstructing them to the point of ridiculousness. Mocking a tragic protagonist’s melancholy provided a neat Carpe Diem notion without labouring the point; these big ideas drawn with a light touch proved irresistible.
