Gravity
A simple premise of astronauts fighting for their lives is beautifully shot by Alfonso Cuarón, with stunning, detailed visual effects creating a theme park ride sensation and ensuring this is a fantastic ‘must-see-in-3D’ movie. Sandra Bullock sensitively portrays astronaut Ryan’s inexperience and nerves, which makes the audience feel not only empathy, but also a sense of danger and fear along with her. The plot is therefore gripping and involving, yet let down by a few unrealistic action movie clichés and some repetitive calamities. Cast aside any notions of classic sci-fi transcendence however, and you’re left with an engrossing spectacle and a truly thrilling experience.
