The Lanes Health & Beauty: a place that understands beauty
Zara Baker finds a beauty haven in the heart of historic Brighton
There are some beauty treatments that are just essential: eyebrow shaping, waxing etc, and those necessities: a well-deserved manicure, relaxing facial or a pick-me up spray tan. In Brighton, you could go to a lot of places for each of these: here it is all in one place.
When I first heard of The Lanes Health & Beauty it was “somewhere Katie Price” had visited. I have to admit, not being a gossip mag fan, this did not excite me much, but I can see the appeal.
The venue: Pink, black and glitzy – somewhat decadent, stylish, fun and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. There’s a retro edge and everything from the chairs to the wall art has been thoughtfully planned.
The brands: Essie nail polishes – I am now a convert and a complete Essie fan. Lauren Conrad has written about them; Julie and her team use them in the salon. They’re glossy, long lasting (even more so after a proper Lanes H&B manicure but the DIY version isn’t bad too) and the colours are gorgeous.
The team: Looking past the (good-looking) surface and there is attention to detail and great customer care. Julie knows beauty: I was after a new pink polish that would see me through winter, one that wasn’t a summer pastel but would brighten my look, contrast well with my winter clothes and suit my post-summer pale skin. Julie was attentive, matching me to a perfect shade that was bold and bright but with a rose tone that makes it perfect for winter. HD Brows Jo is the same: The Lanes isn’t about making everyone look like Amy Childs (unless they want to of course). HD Brows by Jo is the perfect way to make you feel well groomed and confident – no matter how busy your life is! Jo also understands that different results are needed depending on the client – hair colour/skin tone/lifestyle. Tips and advice are also given on care and upkeep between visits. If that wasn’t enough, after 5 visits you get £10 off the next. Perfect for those necessities.
I see businesswomen, teenagers and busy mums drop in when I am there. All they need now is room to grow – as space is quite tight.
Shop in Brighton’s famous Lanes and spend time relaxing here too. It’s the perfect location.
