Keeping mobile with Beau Pilates
It would be lovely to hibernate away until spring but that is impossible. So, to see me through winter I am taking a big stretch and keeping limber at Beau Pilates. Their Pilates classes strengthen the core and improve flexibility and fitness. Instructors are on hand to ensure the correct movement is done at all times to prevent injury. Using the Pilates Reformer, shoulders, arms, tummy and inner thighs were targeted in an hour-long session. I still feel like I’ve had a complete body workout without sweating up a storm in an intense cardio session.

Getting ready for Christmas
The Christmas LBD fitness regime has started in earnest. Forget leaving it until January to get in shape – I can’t face feeling sluggish in the run up to Xmas. So, by taking advantage of QuickFit classes in Hove. I have enough time left to visit my favourite Brighton venues to get ready for Christmas – in style! First up is the newly launched Brighton Make Up School. The best way to learn something is from the pros and Hayley was on hand to give me tips on how to apply blusher. Okay, it sounds like something simple,
but done wrong and you easily look more ‘Aunt Sally’ than fresh-faced. I picked up so many tips, from cream vs powder to shades (hint: swap your summer make-up over, now), to coverage to suit face shapes/skin types. In short: there is a wrong way!
Next up was a winter skin refresher with the newly launched Aveda Dual Exfoliation Power Peel facial. Available at Shine Hair & Beauty in the North Laine, this invigorating new treatment leaves skin completely cleansed and refreshed. It’s the perfect winter- pick-me-up.
Staying in Brighton’s Lanes, no Christmas party look is complete without HD Brows by Jo at the Lanes Health & Beauty. Never underestimate the finishing touch defined and groomed brows can give to your appearance. Transformation is definitely an understatement. It’s like a visit to the hair salon, when the right cut makes the hair fall nicely, but you put up with the dry split ends until your appointment, then vow not to leave it so long between cuts after seeing the results. Speaking of hair, another winter transformation has taken place at Trevor Sorbie’s Nile Street salon.
Blonde highlights, which looked so splendid in the summer sun, can cause hair to look dry and lacklustre in winter. Taking inspiration from The Millers’ Jayma Mays (previously on Glee) warm copper shade, a three-part application process converted tired hair into glossy, healthy locks once again. A semi-permanent colour gives hair a break from the bleach, keeping it in tip-top condition. Are you ready for a colour change? Trevor Sorbie Brighton director Kate Wilson works with your skin tone to find the right shade for you. It’s important to factor in your lifestyle/upkeep of the style too. The right colour and style, teamed with a winter make-up kit will keep you looking your best this winter.
Latest Style is here
Rhatia Renee has joined the team to bring you the very latest in Brighton style. Rhatia, who has lived in the USA, has only been in Brighton a year, but is quickly building up a fantastic fashion portfolio of photos. It’s very fun, very Brighton and very stylish. Surviving Cold season
‘Tis the season to be jolly… almost! Unfortunately there is no joy when the common cold rears its ugly head. Keep your immune system strong by eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables for essential vitamins. Echinacea is also a great preventative supplement – take it before the sniffles start. Most importantly, keep well equipped a box of tissues. To keep things festive, Kleenex has unveiled a Winter Originals range festive designs featuring a Santa, a penguin and a robin, with the super soft Kleenex tissues we know and love. Priced £1.42 for a single pack and £2.68 for a twin pack, available from all leading pharmacies while stocks last.
