Signal failure delays journey home for Brighton and Hove commuters
Commuters returning to Brighton and Hove endured delays and disruption after a small fire caused a major signal failure at London Bridge this afternoon (Tuesday 26 November).
Passengers faced delays of up to 90 minutes on Southern and First Capital Connect trains after the fire in an equipment room.
London Bridge trains were being diverted via Elephant and Castle.
The signal failure at about 5.30pm led to delays well past the rush hour, with delays of 30 to 60 minutes up to 9pm.
One train to Hove and Portslade was held up when a passenger was taken ill. It was further delayed by reports of children playing on near the railway track in Horley.
And at one point during the rush hour Victoria Station was closed because it was overcrowded.
