The Cure’s Robert Smith supports Amaze, Annabel Giles out the jungle, plus Jonesy & red carpet nails
The Cure for Amaze
Rock legend Robert Smith of The Cure has personally donated a signed world tour guitar for local charity Amaze to auction. The beautiful black acoustic guitar, a Schecter ‘Robert Smith’ RS-1000, is inlaid with stars and moon motif and includes signature and lyrics for a song not yet released. In a personal letter to accompany the guitar with photographs Robert has written: “The Cure played the (as yet unreleased) song ‘A Boy I Never Knew’ around 20 times …and this Schecter RS-1000 is the guitar I used for every one of those performances.” Also donated to the charity auction is a Gavin and Stacey screen -used guitar signed by the cast, originally used in Episode 5, series 3.
Amaze, a charity that supports families with disabled children is very excited to auction the guitars on 18th December at the Bonham’s Pre Christmas Entertainment Memorabilia sale starting at 12pm in Knightsbrigde London.
Both guitars are available to view online now. Bids can be registered and the sale watched live: www.bonhams.com/auctions/20772/ (Lot numbers 403 and 126). To register a bid contact the Bids Department: Bids (UK) Tel: +44 20 7447 7448 Fax: +44 20 7447 7401 bids@bonhams.com
The sound of royal blood
Brighton’s very own rock duo Royal Blood have made the list for BBC’s Sound of 2014. The annual poll has previously championed the work of Adele, Jessie J and Haim before they hit the big time – and Royal Blood are now in for the chance to do the same. The list is compiled by a panel of DJs, music critics, bloggers and broadcasters and features 15 of the “best and brightest” rising stars, from the brilliant but barmy FKA Twigs, to radio favourite Sam Smith. The winner will be announced by Nick Grimshaw on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show on 10 January 2014 and we’ve got our fingers firmly crossed for Royal Blood. Check them out at www.soundcloud.com/royalbloodband.
No hassle
According to The Sun on Sunday, Brighton’s Annabel Giles – who was the first camper voted off of ITVs I’m a Celebrity… Get me Out of Here! – has “given up men for a female carpenter”. According to their source, it’s reported that Giles, who was once married to popstar Midge Ure, decided men “weren’t worth the hassle anymore” and turned her attentions to the fairer sex. What with American TV star Maria Bello having the same revelation in the New York Times last week and Tom Daley coming out as bisexual via YouTube, we’re hoping this means a bumper year for Gay Pride 2014!
Red carpet nails
The celebrity nail trend shows no sign of slowing down this season, with red talons matching the red carpet at the recent British Fashion Awards, Ke$ha rocking Monochrome at the AMAs and RiRi excitedly tweeting pictures of her rose manicure just last week. With party season upon us we’re gearing up for fabulous manis in the office, and thankfully Brighton boasts some brilliant salons for the job. Moreover, the gorgeous new Daisy’s Nail Company on Preston Street is holding a Christmas party on 19 December, so you can get a celeb style manicure for free! Pop along from 4pm and receive a complimentary manicures. Daisy’s Nail Company will be collecting donations for the NSPCC on the night and are also donating 20% of all takings on the 19 and 20 of December to charity – so treating yourself this Christmas can also help a child a need. To RSVP for the event, or to book in for a treatment email contact@daisysnailcompany.co.uk
