Beat the stress over exams & revision
Exams are challenging for every student, no matter what subject is being studied. The best thing you can do is to stay calm and positive. Easier said than done though, right? It is vital to never suffer in silence if you find the stress is too difficult to manage. Don’t be embarrassed or afraid to seek professional help; they can help you build the perfect study routine, advise you and make you feel confident and relaxed about your performance.
We all know how stressful it gets when time runs out and you start to panic.
Build a realistic revision schedule and stick to it. Cramming a day if studying in before the exam is not going to help you in retaining information. Instead, keep to your schedule and study in 20 minute chunks (no longer than an hour at a time), taking regular breaks for food and exercise. Also, keeping to a schedule is really helpful in keeping your nerves under control. Keep in mind that regular breaks and a good night’s sleep are as important as the time you spend studying.
There are a lot of useful tips that you can try until you find what suits you best and once you’ve organized your preparation, success will be right on your side.
Many people prefer to study alone in quiet room, but not everyone likes working in silence. You can try playing music quietly in the background, or revising with a friend but don’t let them distract you.
If you want to make your studying more attractive you can customise your notes to make them more personal. You can also experiment with color coding, note cards, diagrams – the visualisation helps you retain the information and call on it when needed in the exam.
If you find exams stressful and find sticking to the above still leaves you as a bundle of nerves, a psychotherapist can help in managing stress and anxiety.
