Woman dies after being hit by bus in Brighton

A woman pedestrian who was critically injured by a bus in Brighton has died.

The 18-year-old woman, Zhiying He, was known as Cecilia. She was a student at the International Study Centre and was living on the Sussex University campus in Falmer.

The accident happened on Tuesday morning (28 January) at about 8.35am on the A270 Lewes Road by the corner of Ringmer Road.

The Compass bus was travelling south in a bus lane. There has been no suggestion that the bus driver was to blame for the accident. He was shaken but unhurt.

The young student suffered serious head injuries and was flown by Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance to Southampton General Hospital neurological unit.

She died there yesterday (Wednesday 29 January).

Police would like to speak to anyone who has any information or who saw the collision. Witnesses are asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
