The aim of these events is to celebrate and promote LGBT equality across the city.
The programme celebrates an unparalleled wealth of stories in a whole range of formats from film, face to face as well as a photographic exhibition called ‘Being Human’. Other events include MindOut, which is a ‘living library’ where you can gain rare insights into LGBT experiences from the people affected themselves who can share experiences about sexual orientation, mental health, ethnicity, gender, disability, age or religion.
In addition to these events Nicky Cambridge, People & Place Co-ordinator for Brighton & Hove City Council will talk about the council’s Trans Equality Scrutiny process. This has been the first scrutiny of its kind in the country that’s handled 37 recommendations that have for example led to trans only swimming sessions.
Cllr Stephanie Powell, Chair of the Licensing Committee and council LGBT Champion said:
“Each year, LGBT history month highlights LGBT awareness, and does this by providing positive and exciting events in Brighton & Hove. It is an important yet fun way to support and develop LGBT knowledge across the city, and welcomes everyone to come along to the events being held at Jubilee Library throughout February.”
