Joan As Policewoman

A colourful career has seen Joan Wasser morph from teenaged violin prodigy, via a formative stint in Antony And The Johnsons (among other collaborations), into the memorably monikered solo force who stands before us tonight in support of her fourth LP. As she flits between instruments to illuminate a fascinatingly eclectic repertoire, we dance to the soaring chorus of recent single ‘Holy City’, sway with the guttural melancholy of vintage favourite ‘The Ride’, doo-wop delightedly through an a cappella rendition of new album title track ‘The Classic’, and absorb in rapt silence an intimate finale. Although initially slow to establish a rapport, Wasser proves a candid and generous performer, drawing the audience into her immersive world.
