Locke

A film that’s all concept and no trousers, focusing entirely on a man called Locke, performed by Tom Hardy utilising a curious mix of Welsh and South African accents. On his way to do the right thing and witness the birth of a child he created out of wedlock, Locke fields phone calls from his family, colleagues and more. Surprisingly, the parts about his job as a foreman on a building site are the most moving, instilling one with a new-found appreciation for the importance of concrete in construction. Speeches to his dead father seem a little strange and awkwardly handled, but do give context and meaning to Locke’s actions. The film lacks any real bite or emotional heft, but is an interesting experiment and somewhat engrossing in parts.
