Erik Kaiel’s work exploited human physicality and an urban landscape in a way that was both provocative and mystifying. An accidental tourist walked through the piece, at times involved, affected even and at others oblivious. The performers were superb, moving through and, often in contact with their audience and yet at all time oblivious – until, almost at the end, they engage and create a long chain of us all, dancing us through a carpark and out again. Using movement that seemed to defy conventional anatomy this was an excellent start to this year’s festival.
